This blog will be my place to post the snippets of devotional thoughts that run through my head from time to time. It will be irregular posts, but I'll try my best to make them often.
The name comes from a recent sermon that I heard. My husband was preaching about this verse: "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment." (Mark 12:30) His sermon had four parts in which he expanded on heart, soul, strength and mind. He was saying that our heart signifies our emotions and the mind represents our thinking.
So, I got to thinking. I love this verse: "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." (Psalm 119:11) I have always thought that hiding His Word in our hearts meant that we memorize it. But, after hearing this sermon, I think that it goes deeper than that. And this next thought hit me deep in the gut.
Do I love His Word? Do I crave it? I remember the feeling of "falling in love" with my husband. I wanted to be around him all the time. I craved his presence. After almost 14 years of marriage, I still crave his presence. Something is missing when he is not around. Do I crave to be in the presence of God's Word? Do I miss reading the Word when I'm unable to?
My answers fell far short of what God wants of me. I have a hard time making myself read the Bible daily. Oh, I love to 'stumble' across a verse that I never noticed before. I love to hear a good sermon or read a good devotional article. But picking up His Word daily and reading for pure pleasure is still difficult for me. I want to be a child of my Father, so I pray that He'll teach me to love His Word.
That's what this blog will be about. Mainly I'll post the jewels and nuggets that I find there. Occasionally I'll post some other things that I believe will be encouraging and edifying to my fellow sisters in Christ. I hope you'll join me on this journey to love the Word of God.
Blessings!
